On Thursday, Feb. 5, the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra invites the community to an immersive musical celebration inspired by the Olympic spirit. This special winter concert places live performance at the heart of the evening, featuring SSO musicians alongside the Simonsez Brass Trio and talented local student string players. The program highlights the shared energy, discipline and artistry that connect music and elite athletic achievement.
Adding a powerful personal dimension to the concert, former Olympians will be in attendance to speak, offering reflections on perseverance, dedication and the pursuit of excellence. Their stories complement the music on stage, drawing meaningful parallels between the training of world-class athletes and the commitment required to master an instrument.
“This concert is about celebrating all that makes Steamboat so unique,” says SSO executive director, Dr. Jennifer Wheeler. “Winter sport and the arts are integral to its culture, and this project especially celebrates the building of champions through both music and sport. The hard work, dedication and grit necessary to become great at either are remarkably similar. The Olympic spirit captures that pursuit of greatness.”
“Symphony of Champions: Celebrating the Olympic Spirit” will take place at Strings Pavilion on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.steamboatsymphony.org.
