Caroline Lalive spent more than a decade competing at the highest level of Alpine skiing, representing the United States at multiple Winter Olympic Games as a member of the U.S. Ski Team. After stepping away from international competition, she settled in Steamboat Springs with her family, remaining connected to the mountain lifestyle and ski community that shaped her career. Reflecting on her Olympic journey, Caroline offers advice to today’s athletes: “Enjoy every moment! There are very few things in life that you might only experience once. And the Olympics is one of them. Be present in the moment. Remember, all the time and dedication it took to get you there. Your passion and hard work will be what grounds you. Best of luck!”

Erin Simmons-Nemec once measured her days in training sessions, competitions and the pursuit of Olympic excellence. A snowboarder who represented the United States at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, she is also an X Games medalist who spent years competing at the highest levels of her sport, where mental toughness was as essential as physical skill. Today, Erin carries those lessons into a new chapter of her life as a recreation programmer and a mother, focused on helping others recognize their own potential. “What I learned about mental fortitude as an Olympian now inspires me to help others discover that same strength in themselves,” she says. Her advice to this year’s crop of Olympians is simple but hard-earned: “Trust your instincts. No one understands your strengths and potential better than you do.”

Chris Puckett’s Olympic journey in Alpine skiing culminated with his appearance at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, but his competitive career extended far beyond a single moment on the world stage. After 10 years racing on the World Cup circuit with the U.S. Ski Team, Chris and his family relocated to Steamboat Springs in June 2001, seeking a different pace and a place to put down roots. Since 2007, he has worked as a financial advisor, applying the same discipline and long-term focus that defined his athletic career, while remaining closely tied to the sport through the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, where he coached and directed local youth in the Alpine program. Reflecting on that transition, Chris says, “Becoming an Olympian is the result of working for a long time to achieve lofty goals, and that work ethic endured after my career. At SSWSC, I learned as a coach to help support the goals of others, and those years were a great transition to what I do now for clients. I am proud of what I learned on my journey to the Olympics; however, I think I have learned far more about life through my experience as a parent and by working in support of others’ goals. I want to say thank you to Steamboat Springs for everything you have been to me and my family – we are very grateful.”
