Taking place Friday, Jan. 16 at the Depot Art Center, the intimate dinner experience draws inspiration from the traditions of soul food and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The evening centers on the idea that food is more than nourishment – it is memory, culture and storytelling passed down through generations.

Those stories will be guided by two nationally respected creatives whose work explores identity, representation and belonging. Culinary historian and James Beard award–winning author Adrian Miller will lead guests through the deeper history of soul food, unpacking its origins, misconceptions and enduring role in American culture. Through his storytelling, food becomes a lens for broader conversations about race, community and resilience.

Alongside the culinary narrative, multidisciplinary artist Lamont Joseph White brings a visual and emotional dimension to the evening. Known for vibrant work that celebrates representation and joy, Lamont uses art to explore what it means to feel seen and to share space with one another. “I’m deeply honored and excited to unite my art with Adrian Miller’s cuisine and cultural conversations,” Lamont says. “It’s an experience that promises to be both special and inspiring.”

“Sharing the Table” reflects Steamboat Creates’ broader mission to cultivate meaningful cultural experiences in Northwest Colorado; gatherings that invite curiosity, dialogue and connection. Made possible through community philanthropy, the event supports ongoing programming that educates, inspires and brings people together in thoughtful ways.
