Make Sunday, Oct. 12 the best day ever. It’s the launch party for the Best Day Ever Fund, which was created in memory of Steamboat local Pete Van De Carr. To honor the spirit with which Pete lived, the fund is designed to provide youth with the resources they need to live their own ‘best day ever’ through sports, education, adventure and activities that promote a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. The funds will be allocated to youth in need of gear, tuition or other necessities that allow them to participate in positive activities.

“Both Pete and I held careers that promoted healthy, adventurous and positive lifestyles for kids,” says Gretchen Van De Carr, Pete’s wife. “We always talked about how privileged our kids were, and so many others here, but that there were plenty of kids in our community who weren’t exposed to the great opportunities around them, and certainly don’t have the means to partake.”

The Best Day Ever Fest, from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, will celebrate the launch of the fund. Everyone is encouraged to live like Pete and participate in a three sport day before heading over to Mountain Tap, where the fest will be held. Door prizes will be awarded, live music will be performed by Tyree Woods, Heads All Empty and Flattops Band; Mountain Tap will unveil its new Best Day IPA and food specials will include “Pete-zas.”
