Winter Carnival takes place Wednesday-Sunday, Feb. 5-9. Established in 1914, Winter Carnival served as a winter pick-me-up, allowing locals to forget the hardships of winter and bring happiness to the snow-filled valley. The event is hosted by Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, showcasing Steamboat’s Western traditions and ski heritage.
Don’t miss street events like skijoring, slaloms, races and the donkey jump. The Diamond Hitch Parade will go right down Lincoln Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 9 offering a showcase of floats reflecting this year’s theme, “Let Your Light Shine.” The Night Extravaganza is not to be missed: SSWSC athletes ski down Howelsen Hill, followed by the iconic Lighted Man, descending down the hill with roman candles shooting from his back. That’s the lead into a showstopping firework display.
To attend events, you’ll need a Winter Carnival button. Purchase one at a variety of locations across town. For a full schedule of events, button pricing and more, visit www.sswsc.org.
