Steamboat Springs, CO - A journal written by a woman living in the Midwest inspired Heide Presse’s exhibit “We Set Our Faces Westward: One Woman’s Journey 1839-1848.”
“One reason that I chose her journal as my inspiration is because she was very descriptive in the way that she did daily things, which is one of my favorite things to paint – everyday lives,” Heide says. “So it was the perfect situation.”
The exhibit tells the story of an Oregon Trail journey through paintings, drawings and artifacts, bringing to life a story of westward migration, told uniquely through a female perspective.
“We Set Our Faces Westward” is on display downtown at Steamboat Art Museum from Saturday, May 25, through Sunday, Sept. 1. For more information, visit www.SteamboatArtMuseum.org.
