Steamboat Springs, CO - Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you’ve more than likely booked a flight at Yampa Valley Regional Airport to avoid the hassle of a three-hour car ride to or from Denver. Although small by comparison to DIA, the regional airport services five major towns. As the tourism industry continues to grow in and around Steamboat Springs, the airport has proposed a new terminal area plan to expand its capacity and match anticipated demands over a 20-year span.
Consisting of two phases, the expansion is intended to facilitate better customer experience and increase accommodation resources. Phase one includes creating larger circulation areas, new restrooms and an additional baggage area on the first floor. The biggest change to the airport will be the construction of a second floor, which would allow up to eight departure lounges and second-story passenger boarding bridges, the first of their kind at HDN. Phase two focuses on baggage claim, ground transportation and more aircraft parking. By refining existing areas and creating new ones, the airport hopes to increase its peak hour of enplanements by over 200.
