Make December merry and bright with these local events.
Stop by the Depot Art Center to explore the annual Holidays in the Rockies, a holiday market that features local artisans selling handmade jewelry, gourmet food, wood sculptures, clothing and pottery. Live music, prize drawings, holiday food and drinks, children’s activities (and a visit from Santa!) are just part of the fun. Admission is free and there are two Saturdays left: Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. For a schedule of events and to view participating vendors, visit www.steamboatcreates.org.
Visit “A Very Steamboat Holiday Festival” on the Routt County Courthouse lawn on Sunday, Dec. 17. Get a Christmas card-worthy family photo taken with local photographer Danielle Zimmerer, make ornaments, decorate cookies and try out family Christmas carol karaoke. Stop by to see Santa, who will be entertaining visitors 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. He’ll also be available for visits in his workshop on December 9, 16, 17 and 23 from 11 a.m. - 1p.m. For more information, visit www.mainstreetsteamboat.org.
Celebrate Hanukkah at the mountain by joining Rabbi Kolby Morris-Dahary of the Jewish Community of Steamboat in a celebration of the Festival of Light. Stop by the stage in Steamboat Square at the resort at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 for songs, treats and the traditional lighting of a Hanukkah menorah.
“Santa Saddles Up” on Saturday, Dec. 16 as he rides from the Torian Plum area into Steamboat Square on horseback. Arrive promptly at 2 p.m. to see him arrive, escorted by legendary locals Bob Dapper and Dean Vogelaar. Visit and snap photos with him on the stage afterwards, and bonus: hot chocolate and cupcakes are free. Stroll through the first ever Steamboat Holiday Market, also located in Steamboat Square, and stick around for the Holiday Skate Party at Skeeter’s Rink from 4-6 p.m.
Sing Christmas carols (bring your instrument if you have one!) with community members on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Depot Art Center. For more information, visit www.steamboatcreates.org.
