On Thursday, July 21, 2022 members of our talented Steamboat Springs writers community gathered at Steamboat Art Museum for the reading of this years' Ekphrasis visual writing event, presented by Steamboat Magazine and Off the Beaten Path Bookstore. Set against the backdrop of the art that inspired the writing, the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition of Traditional Oils, winning entries from both adult and youth categories were read by local Steamboat celebrities.
Challenged to submit a story or poem inspired by a painting, over 30 writers of all ages participated in this years' event. In its fourth year, the writers’ creative stories once again provide fascinating new perspectives on their selected paintings.
(Ekphrastic writing is the use of words to comment on a piece of visual art.)
