Jett Seymour, 23

Alpine Skiing

Trained with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club

What do you consider your proudest moment in skiing so far?

Probably winning NCAA's when I was at the University of Denver. It was a lot of fun competing for a team and having that team atmosphere. It was very refreshing to have that side of the sport. It really helped me fall in love with the sport.

What role has your family played in your success?

I often get asked why I love skiing so much and for a while I didn’t have an answer. Then one day I finally realized that it is because I grew up skiing with my family. The reason I was skiing wasn’t because my parents envisioned me being a successful ski racer but because my parents had a love for skiing. They met through skiing and wanted to pass that special gift down to their kids. My twin younger brothers and I fully embraced it and I will always cherish the family ski days.

Who are your biggest role models and why?

My biggest role models are definitely my teammates, both of the guys I spend most of the time with work very hard and bring many different attributes to our team and I learn a lot from them. Also, my mentor is Tommy Ford, who has had a lot of experience at the World Cup and there is so much to learn from him. It’s fun to pick his brain and figure out how to be the best athlete I can be.

What’s the best advice you’ve gotten from your coach?

Trust yourself and have fun.

Do you have any superstitions before a competition?

I always put on my left boot before my right boot.

What's your go-to fuel before a competition?

Coffee and usually some peanut M&M's.

What do you think separates good skiers and great skiers?

Anyone can ski fast in training, but being able to ski fast on race day with the nerves that come along with the races takes a long time to master. I think that is a huge difference between very good skiers and great skiers.
