What’s your proudest moment so far?

My proudest moment of my career so far is coming back to the hill after my back-to-back hip and heart surgeries in 2018. It was very behind the scenes – no crowd or big competition, but I was really proud of myself for coming back and getting out in the air again.

How has living in Steamboat Springs contributed to your success?

I would not be at this point in my athletic career if my family had not moved to Steamboat. Not only do we have facilities that you can't find in many other places in the world, but the town and community are so supportive of the dreams of young athletes. It's really easy for small things to get in the way of a burgeoning athletic career, and growing up in Steamboat definitely alleviates some of those small barriers.

What part of ski jumping is hardest to master?

Ski jumping is a really mentally tough sport. The person who wins isn't always the strongest or the fastest or the most flexible or the person who works the hardest in physical training. Everything happens in the span of 3 seconds so you have to be perfect in every aspect of those 3 seconds and there's no way to recover if you mess up.

Describe your perfect winter day in Steamboat Springs.

My perfect Steamboat day would definitely be a powder day – a full day of racing around Steamboat Resort with my brothers and friends followed by some takeout from a local restaurant and finishing with a fire in the fireplace and some hot chocolate. Don't think I could ask for more than that.

What do you plan to do after you’re done ski jumping competitively?

I am currently studying mechanical engineering at Dartmouth College and I plan to go into that field when I retire from sport. I'm not exactly sure in what capacity that will be, but I'm excited to keep learning more and find out.
