STEAMBOAT SPRINGS– The public-safety focused organization BackgroundChecks.org recently announced their 2018 rankings of the top school districts in Colorado. The Steamboat Springs School District placed second in the state.

Data for these rankings were collected from 9,577 school districts.  Schools were ranked based on math and reading test scores, dropout rates, school funding and area poverty rates.

In addition to being ranked the number-two school district in the state, Steamboat Springs School District was also recognized as a District of Distinction for the seventh year in a row. The Colorado Department of Education awards school districts for outstanding student academic achievement and growth.

In addition, Steamboat Springs Middle School, Soda Creek Elementary, Strawberry Park Elementary School and North Routt Community Charter School earned John Irwin awards. John Irwin awards are given to schools that demonstrate excellent academic achievement over time. “The 2016-17 scores and awards continue to acknowledge the excellence in teaching and learning that has become the expectation and standard that takes place in our classrooms on a daily basis,” says Marty Lamansky, director of teaching and learning for the Steamboat Springs School District.

Strawberry Park Elementary School and Soda Creek Elementary School earned Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards. The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth over time.

“These awards and recognitions are a result of the collaborative efforts of staff, students, families and community,” says Superintendent Brad Meeks. “We are all proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff and well as the tremendous support the district receives from our community.”

Joining Steamboat Springs in the top five ranking of the school districts in Colorado are Cheyenne Mountain School District, Douglas County School District, Boulder Valley School District and Academy School District.
