Steamboat Springs, CO - Ester, 18, is from the Czech Republic and is a rising star in alpine
snowboarding, having won two gold medals at the Junior World Championships in
Turkey last March. Watch for her on Team Czech Republic in Sochi.
Q. How do you like to relax?
A. During
the winter season, on skis. And summer? Well, windsurfing and beach volleyball
and a lot of other activities. I like books, theater, movies, playing guitar
and piano, walking a gibbon line, juggling, etc.
Q. What’s your favorite place to train (other than
Steamboat)?
A. Winter,
Spindl Muhle – the best ski resort in the Czech Republic. Summer, Prague for
beach volleyball (Yes, there is some sand in Prague too.) and Vassiliki
windsurfing resort on Lefkada Island in Greece. At least one month of summer
holidays.
Q. What’s your favorite career moment so far?
A. Recently,
it has been my double win at the World Junior Championship in Erzurum, Turkey. And,
as a special bonus from the last season, I qualified for the Women’s Czech
National Team in alpine skiing as well.
Q. What drew you to your sport at a young age?
A. My
grandfather was a double Olympic medalist and world champion in ice hockey. My
parents have inspired me as well.
Q. What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the past
year?
A. “Hotel
Transylvania.”
Q. What is your favorite quote?
A. “With
great power comes great responsibility.” – From the movie, “Spiderman.”
Q. What’s your favorite fashion trend?
A. Woodstock

Q. Which three words describe you best?
A. Beautiful,
smart, witty.
Q. What would you do if you won the lottery?
A. Every
single day is a lottery jackpot for me, so I am quite prepared to win.
Q. If you were an animal, what would you be?
A. A tiger.
Q. Which song do you know all the lyrics to?
A. All
my daddy’s songs – he is a songwriter. Also, “White Horses” by the Rolling
Stones, and “Black Bird” by the Beatles, and lot of stuff from Prince, Eric
Clapton, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Pink.
Q. What’s your favorite type of food?
A. A
good beef steak.
Q. Which languages do you speak fluently?
A. Czech,
Slovak, English, German, Greek and Polish. Turkish, Swiss and French only passively.
And in kindergarten I learned some worlds in Yiddish.
