Steamboat Springs, CO - Billy has made four Olympic appearances in Nordic combined. His greatest triumph occurred at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, when he won the gold medal in the Individual Gunderson event and the silver medal, alongside teammate, Todd Lodwick, in the Nordic Combined Team event.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A. Big trees grow slowly.

Q. How do you like to relax?
A. Nowadays, I like to spend my off time chasing my 2-year-old, Liam, around. Though not super relaxing, it is certainly cherished.

Q. What’s your favorite place to train (other than Steamboat)?
A. Honestly I love training in new places, exploring the roads and trails. Even in a city, it’s great to run and find parks and other places. One of the joys of outside endurance training is new scenery.

Q. What’s on your warm-up playlist?
A. I’m horrible with music. I just auto-fill my iPod and shuffle it.

Q. How do you like to celebrate a victory?
A. By putting my feet up with some good friends and teammates and just being able to enjoy the satisfaction of seeing hard work come to fruition.

Q. What’s your favorite vacation destination?
A. What’s a vacation?

Q. What’s your favorite hangout in Steamboat?
A. Johnny Spillane’s back porch.

Q. Which three words describe you best?
A. Persistent. Determined. Caring.

Q. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
A. Flying, without skis or wings.
