Enduro-X Race Series Finale Returns

08/07/2013 07:09PM ● By Grant Johnson

The second and final weekend of the inaugural Enduro-X Race Series, presented by Steamboat, returns August 17-  18, 2013.  The weekend’s multi-stage gravity-oriented races include three enduro stages over two days.  Courses feature Steamboat Bike Park terrain and the mountain’s cross-country single-track trails.

“We were super pleased with the outcome of June’s Enduro-X races and we’re excited to be one of the events kicking off the start of Steamboat Bike Week,” said David Scully, Enduro-X race director and event promoter.

“These upcoming enduro stages incorporate a lot of variety; iconic single-track coupled with gravity specific trails blending numerous drops, technical rock gardens, and plenty of dirt berms to challenge the competitors.”

Saturday’s one-stage Sunshine Enduro begins with a mass 3:30 pm start from the top of Steamboat’s gondola.  Racers begin with a time neutral climb of approximately three miles and 600 vertical feet before the timed event begins.  The course is mostly single-track as it descends approximately 3000 feet to the base of the mountain.

Sunday’s two-stage Thunderhead Challenge highlights upper, and the recently completed lower section of Rawhide, Steamboat Bike Park’s most advanced downhill trail, and Rustlers Ridge with a grand total of 4000 vertical feet of elevation loss.  Individual starts begin at 9:00 am at the top of the Steamboat Gondola.

Detailed race schedules, course descriptions, maps available on the Enduro-X website

Online registration is open.  Pro-Open, Amateur, Master, and Junior men and women can choose to race by the day or weekend.  Pro-Open categories will compete for the remainder of the series’ $5500.00 cash purse.  Podiums for Saturday’s stage, Sunday’s stage, the weekend’s combined stages, and the entire Enduro-X Series will be awarded.
