An unusual mingling of rustic and contemporary materials mesh to inspire this sophisticated mountain getaway. A series of feature walls were created using creative blends of organic materials. In the great room, custom hand-waxed raw steel siding was applied horizontally to contrast against vertical reclaimed barn wood siding. The industrial steel walls complement the custom steel and cable handrails fabricated by local welder Bruce Heath. In the kitchen, a backdrop of dry-stacked natural stone goes all the way to the ceiling, where the juxtaposition of stone and wood allow both elements to shine brighter.

The great room is truly expansive, opening into a kitchen that is the hub of the home. There is maximum space for entertaining, while barnwood pocket doors were installed to close off a cozy media room. Floating free-form benches flank either side of the stone fireplace and add ample seating, while the reclaimed mantel had so much character the designers had a hard time deciding which side to expose.

The home’s floors are 200-year-old reclaimed oak and all the cabinetry was custom built. Overhead are distressed ceiling beams and an array of show-stopping lighting that includes a custom 60-inch diameter steel and glass chandelier, hand-blown glass lights and a fixture that hangs from leather belts. Custom paintings were commissioned for the space including ones by local artists Lance Whitner and Carol Jean.
