Nestled in a dramatic landscape that includes 900 acres of land preservation, this sophisticated home was built for a young, energetic family. The design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, reflecting the owner’s appreciation for Steamboat Springs’ natural environment and a penchant for entertaining.
Views sweep a full 360-degrees from the ski area to the Yampa Valley floor, while the home offers a respectful nod to regional traditions that incorporate stone and exposed rafter tails. Craftsmen used mortise and tenon joinery in the home’s genuine timber frame construction, with rough-sawn timber siding and board and batten cedar on the exterior. Corten steel roofing accents were designed to weather naturally.
Both inside and out, this space is designed for entertaining. Covered porches convey openness, while a large outdoor dining room with a wood-burning fireplace keeps things cozy even when it’s chilly. Indoors, timber framing and high parallel chord trusses facilitate an open floor plan that includes a library, music room, game room, custom bar, exercise room, full theater and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar. A large gathering space off the basement includes a stone fire pit and spa for year-round enjoyment, plus an exterior observation platform and telescope to scope out the wildlife and scenery.
