Any ideas for free and fun activities to do with kids in Steamboat Springs?

Bike the Yampa River Core Trail. Play at Little Toots on 12th Street or Whistler Park. Build sand castles at Burgess Creek ”beach” in Gondola Square. Attend a concert at the Botanic Park on Thursdays at noon. Venture on a nature walk along Spring Creek trail.

What can you do on a rainy day?

Go on a scavenger hunt at the Tread of Pioneers Museum. Play games at the kids’ mall, In Celebration of Kids. Attend story time and relax at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Play tennis at the “tennis bubble” or have a friendly bowling competition at Snow Bowl.

Favorite ways to spend a family day?

A typical family day for us starts out with a cruiser bike ride downtown, where we can soak up the sun, play in parks and splash around at the Old Town Hot Springs or the Yampa River. After a quick ice cream stop at Lyons Soda Fountain or Mountain View Car Wash, we are energized for the bike ride home. In the afternoon we might take a scenic drive to Steamboat Lake or Stagecoach Reservoir to enjoy hiking, fishing, paddle boarding and a picnic dinner.

Do you have any favorite places to eat out with the kids?

Breakfast at Creekside Cafe or Freshies. Lunch at Ciao Gelato or Cuginos happy hour and dinner at Mambo Italiano for pizza on their lively deck, or Rex’s American Grill, where kids can play corn toss and hula hoop on the lawn.

Can you recommend any summer camps for kids?

Have your pick from many options. ABISS (Adventure Bound in Steamboat Springs) City camp. Kids Adventure Club at the ski area. Yampatika for young naturalists. Young at Art at the Art Depot. Booktrails for reading on ranches and exploring the outdoors.

If you get a sitter and head out for date night, where do you like to go?

Our classic date night may start with a drink and appetizer at Laundry Kitchen and Cocktails, and then on to Mahogany Ridge, E3 Chophouse or Café Diva for a delicious dinner.
