Join SAM for the week of September 20 – 27, 2019 when over 50 artists from around the country convene in Steamboat to paint our glorious fall scenery. This week-long event produces extraordinary works by artists of all ability levels and creates a great level of camaraderie amongst the painters, the patrons and the public alike. It showcases Steamboat and our surrounding community landscape through the unique light of the artist’s eyes.

You may see artists near the side of a scenic road, out in a beautiful meadow, in front of historic buildings, at the Botanic Gardens and along the streets of downtown Steamboat as they attempt to capture this season of beauty.

SAM’s Plein Air Exhibit, featuring the results of this week-long painting adventure, will be on display and for sale at the Steamboat Art Museum beginning Friday, September 27. The Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony with the artists is open to the public and free of charge. Special opportunities are available to those who commit early to purchase a painting including an exhibit pre-sale and first choice selection.

A fun addition to this year’s event includes a Kick-Off Quick Draw event on the final day of Steamboat’s Farmers Market, Saturday, September 21. From 10:00 to 12:00 pm, watch the artists, spread throughout the downtown area, complete and frame a finished painting in two hours! All paintings will be for sale from noon to 2:00 pm at the Farmers Market. This is a free event.
