Colorado Proud Stops at Steamboat Farmers Market

The Next Generation of Ag Statewide Community Tour at Steamboat Farmers Market

Colorado Proud, a program of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, is stopping in Steamboat, as part of its The Next Generation of Ag month-long, statewide tour and 20th anniversary campaign. The goal is to connect with Colorado residents and share conversations around agriculture, including innovation and technology and relationships with consumers, farmers, ranchers and retailers. At the Colorado Proud booth at the Main Street Steamboat Farmers Market, consumers can gather educational information about Colorado agriculture and its impact on Colorado’s economy, heritage and environment; discuss The Next Generation of Ag; view the newly-launched Colorado Proud logo; and collect limited-edition 20th anniversary bags (for the first 20 consumers at each event).

Colorado Proud’s story and 20th anniversary coincide with a growing consumer population that chooses to eat local foods while simultaneously boosting Colorado’s environment, lifestyle and economy, with agriculture as one of the biggest economic drivers in the state. The statewide community tour, which includes a stop in Steamboat, supports both the current and the next generation of ag producers and ag businesses, while continuing to educate consumers about how essential food and agriculture is to Colorado’s way of life. According to Wendy White, Colorado Proud Spokesperson, “‘The Next Generation of Ag’ theme puts on umbrella over every aspect of agriculture that’s growing and changing – literally – and that is impacting our state with fresh ideas that supersede today’s agriculture.” Agriculture consistently ranks as one of Colorado’s leading industries and is in the top 10 nationally for production of a variety of agricultural products. With more than 38,000 farms encompassing nearly 32 million acres, agriculture is a vital part of Colorado, supporting more than 170,000 jobs, contributing more than $40 billion to the state’s economy annually, and exporting nearly $2 billion in products every year.
