Steamboat Ski Area Closes Indefinitely

Along with all other Alterra Mountain Company resorts, Steamboat Ski Resort suspended operations on March 15 until further notice. Shortly after announcing, the Governor of Colorado made an executive order to cease operations at all Colorado resorts. Today, all on-mountain operations are closed until further notice, while the Steamboat Grand Hotel remains open and will assist guests as needed.

While this decision was made with a heavy heart, we believe it is in the best interest of our staff, guests and community, as healthcare providers across the country are recommending group gatherings be limited. At the heart of our mountain is our incredible workforce and with their health and well-being in mind, we will be providing all seasonal employees a week’s worth of pay, based on their scheduled shifts, to provide assistance during this difficult time. Some staff will continue to work, to help guest finalize their vacations, following all CDC guidelines to create a healthy work environment.

Guests who have reservations during this closure should email [email protected] and we will work with everyone to provide appropriate refunds and credits. Please understand we are dealing with a large number of phone calls and emails; we will respond to every inquiry, but it will take time. We appreciate your patience.

While the mountain is closed, we have had many inquiries about our uphill access policy. Please follow the guidelines for appropriate routes and uphill access here, and understand mountain crews may be encountered, ski patrol response is not available, and keep in mind social distancing recommendations to avoid gatherings on the mountain.

We are a community of passionate outdoor fans, and this has been an incredibly challenging period for all of us with significant anxiety and uncertainty, but we are proud of the way the Steamboat family, from staff to visitors to locals, have come together to support difficult decision during this unprecedented situation. We are committed to keeping you up-to-date with information as soon as we know it, understanding we may not have all the answers immediately.
