“With nearly two feet in the past four days, Steamboat is enjoying some of the best snow and mountain conditions in the Colorado Rocky Mountains,” said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “So far, February has been all about snow, and it doesn’t look like the snow will be slowing up anytime soon.”

Since February 1,
the resort has enjoyed 20 inches at mid-mountain and 21 inches at the summit, including 6 inches and 9 inches overnight respectively.  With 100% of the resort’s terrain open, Steamboat is reporting a 49-inch base at mid-mountain and 56-inch base at the summit. This season, Steamboat has been blanketed by nearly 13 feet of snow at mid-mountain and more than 14 feet at the summit since October 1.

With a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6pm this evening, the National Weather Service is calling for periods of snow over the northern mountains in western Colorado. Heavy snow is expected near Steamboat Springs, where the mountain is forecast to see accumulations exceeding one foot. Another round of snow is forecasted to arrive Saturday afternoon and linger through Sunday with the northern mountains again favored.

With potentially 7 to 10 more inches of dense snow falling before sundown, this is enough of a load to raise the avalanche rating from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center to CONSIDERABLE (Level 3) for the Steamboat Zone.

In addition to serving up heaps of Champagne Powder® snow in February, the resort unveiled its new Sun & Snow Package for avid powder lovers including 20% or more savings on three or more days of lodging and lifts, plus a special $200 resort credit if purchased by February 19, 2015.
