Go Beyond the Canvas...
Opera, Brooklyn’s hot new Chef, chalk art like you've never seen, and an indie film experience like no other
(STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – Thursday, August 4th, 2011) This year Steamboat Springs is shaking things up a bit at the 3rd Annual Steamboat All Arts Festival with new talent and fresh spins on enjoying the arts. The four-day event runs August 18-21st and highlights the amazing arts and culture in the Yampa Valley while featuring nationally-renowned artists. The festival incorporates all aspects of the arts into one cohesive event including dance, vocal, musical, visual, literary and culinary arts. Experiential and educational workshops will be available all weekend and open to all levels.
For the second time and something not to be missed, the Emerald City Opera has partnered with the Chamber to bring a high-caliber opera concert performance of J. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus with orchestra and performers from the New York Metropolitan Opera to open the festival weekend on Thursday night at 7:00pm. The performance will be in English and is a humorous story of revenge, masquerade and identity theft.
Fresh talent from New York City by the name of Zakary Pelaccio takes Steamboat by storm as he will demonstrate his culinary skills and provide onlookers tastings of his creations as they are paired with fine wine from Colorado. Chef Pelaccio owns the Fatty ‘Cue which was just voted the Best New Brooklyn Restaurant by Time Out New York Readers so he should not disappoint. Pelaccio also owns the popular Fatty Crab, also in New York City and a restaurant in St. John, U.S.V.I. Local chefs will also be demonstrating their culinary skills at the Yampa River Art Stroll with tastings.
This year will also include the Quick Draw Exhibition and the Indie Film Flick n’ Float. The Exhibition will showcase what artists can create in their medium when given one hour. Artists will work on their pieces from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Friday. On Sunday night head over to the outdoor hot spring mineral pools in the heart of downtown and watch indie film Arranged during the Flick n’ Float. Bruce Bennet from The New York Sun raves that “Arranged is that rare thing- a low-budget, mainstream American independent film that sets realistic dramatic goals and attains them with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of charm.”
The fun Yampa River Art Stroll returns to the line-up Friday through Sunday from 10:00am-6:00pm with the exception of Sunday when the Stroll ends at 3:00pm. Meander along Yampa Street and see artwork from across the country and meet the artists.
A popular component of the Steamboat All Arts Festival is the opportunity for event participants to learn hands-on from the artists through artist workshops. With more than 20 workshops, attendees have the chance to explore the arts including theater, painting, literature and the arts.
