9/1/10 - Labor Day Weekend Filled with Fun Events
Steamboat’s Labor Day Celebration packs in all of town’s appeal - in JUST three days!
Celebration includes vintage planes, stage race, stock dogs, bull riders, chill cook-off & sidewalk sale!

Labor Day Weekend in Steamboat Springs truly gives folks endless entertainment all in one weekend.

Headlining the Labor Day Weekend Celebration is the 6th Annual Wild West Air Fest (Saturday, September 4th – Sunday, September 5th) held at the Bob Adams Field at the Steamboat Springs Airport located on Elk River Road (RCR 129). The unmistakable sights and sounds of Wild West Air Fest include vintage and war bird airplanes, remote controlled aircraft, classic cars and the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum’s KidSpace engaging all ages in flight simulators and air-based craft projects.

An exciting aspect of the event this year is the return of the Pacific Prowler B-25 Mitchell World War II Bomber and the addition of a Douglas C-47 both offering rides to the public. Ride prices are $350 for a B-25 ride and $45 for a C-47 ride. Rides are available on both Saturday, September 4th and Sunday, September 5th. To make a reservation please call (970) 875-7006.

In addition to these incredible planes taking the Steamboat skies, the Wild West Air Fest will host a tribute to General Robin Olds, an American fighter pilot and general officer in the U.S. Air Force whose memoir “Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds,” complied by Robin Olds himself before his 2007 passing and his daughter Christina Olds, who will give a presentation on his memoirs on Saturday, September 4th and Sunday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. Event participants can also look forward to seeing a Salute to the Troops Saturday, September 4th at 12:00 p.m. including a presentation of the colors by Steamboat’s American Legion Post 44, parachutists descending with the American Flag, a performance of the National Anthem and missing man formation flyby done by the four-airplane squadron Victor Flight pilots from Grand Junction honoring General Olds.

Admission buttons for Saturday and Sunday are $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 years old, and kids 5 and under are FREE! Purchase buttons at the Steamboat Springs Chamber Visitor Center (125 Anglers Drive), at the event entrance, with a Labor Day Weekend vacation package on steamboatsummer.com or by calling 877.754.2269.

Also, over Labor Day Weekend check out the Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge where top working-dogs herd sheep as their handlers use only their voice and whistles as commands. Event admission is free at the Stanko Ranch on Twenty Mile Road west of town on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The 2nd Annual Steamboat Springs Stage Race presented by Moots Cycles is the only four-day road stage race in Colorado this summer. Competitors will be tackling terrain both west of Steamboat Springs at Marabou Ranch and in downtown Steamboat Springs.

Saddle up for the Rocky Mountain Bull Bash PBR on Sunday, September 5th. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. and the “dirt flies” at 5:00 p.m. at Romick Arena in downtown Steamboat Springs. Tickets are available at the Steamboat Springs Chamber Visitor Center or at the event entrance. Also, join downtown merchants for the Come Sale Away sidewalk sale downtown all weekend, the Mainstreet Farmers’ Market on Saturday, September 4th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on 6th Street as well as the 5th Annual Downtown Hoedown and Chuckwagon Chili Challenge on Sunday, September 5th on 8th Street between Lincoln Avenue and Oak Street.
