News Release
| 8/12/10 - Steamboat Symphony Opens Season |
The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is pleased to announce its Opening Concert onSunday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. It will feature:
Beethoven: Egmont Overture
Copland: Lincoln Portrait
Beethoven: Symphony No.5
With tickets priced at $25 in advance or $10 for Youth, the SSO provides value to the community it serves.
Relying heavily on donations and grants, each concert costs approximately $25,000. But the quality and professionalism exhibited by the musicians and the music they play is worth every penny.
Ernest Richardson took the helm as the SSO Music Director in 2004 and has overseen the transformation of the organization from a community orchestra to a polished professional ensemble. He is also artistic director and CEO of the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, a nationally recognized summer music school and festival in Steamboat Springs.
The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra consists of 55 musicians, featuring a mix of Steamboat locals and out-of-town guests, many of whom perform in high-calibre ensembles throughout the region. It is such a benefit to this community to be able to attend classical concerts in rural Colorado.
Once again, the SSO will host Encounter Dinners this season. The first Encounter Dinner will be Sunday, Sept. 5, at 5 p.m. The price is $100 per person. Call the SSO Office at 870-3223 to make reservations.
The SSO offers free admission to Hospice patients, residents of senior facilities and low-income seniors who present a special SSO invitation letter at one of our three matinee concerts. Music reduces stress levels and muscle tension, increases relaxation, provides pain relief and has been shown to counteract depression, apprehension and fear.
Season tickets, $70, are on sale throughout August. Passholders have preferred seating at each of the three concerts: Sunday, Sept. 5, 3 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5, 5 p.m., and Sunday, March 27, 5 p.m. All concerts will be performed at the Strings Music Pavilion.
For tickets or to make a donation, visit SteamboatOrchestra.org or call (970) 870-3223. Concert tickets available at the Depot, All That Jazz or the Strings Music Pavilion.
