Strings Music Festival Receives 2010 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
Steamboat Springs, CO: Strings Music Festival has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of a commemorative series of chamber music featuring the works of influential Jewish-American composers as part of the 2010 American Masterpieces: Chamber Music program. This is the first grant awarded to the Strings Music Festival from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Today in Washington DC, National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman announced the NEA's latest round of funding for fiscal year 2010 in the categories of Access to Artistic Excellence, Learning in the Arts, Arts on Radio and Television, and Partnership Agreements (State and Regional). The Arts Endowment will distribute $97,632,100 through 1,323 grants to nonprofit national, regional, state, and local organizations nationwide. Strings Music Festival is one of 72 organizations nationwide to receive funding from the NEA for the 2010 American Masterpieces: Chamber Music granting program.
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the deaths of Jewish-American composers Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland, Strings Music Festival will honor their legacy and their influence on future generations. The elements of these composers’ timeless works have translated into the uniquely American sounds of music from George Gershwin, Artie Shaw and William Kroll to the contemporary works of David Stock, Lukas Foss and Mike Garson. Commemorative programming will included on classical performances on July 21, July 24, August 1, August 4 and August 7. Free public education events are planned with a Meet the Composers Series with featured Jewish-American composers David Stock and Mike Garson on July 21 and July 28 in collaboration with the Bud Werner Memorial Library.
