Sidewalk Sales Labor Day Weekend In less than a month the annual summer sidewalk sales will be upon us. The sales will be September 1-4 as part of what is expected to be a very busy weekend in Steamboat Springs. As was to entice shoppers into the stores, as well as shopping on the sidewalks for bargains, the Promotion Committee has proposed a total of $1000 (hopefully) shopping spree in downtown stores. Those member businesses that contribute $25 cash (or it can be billed) to the spree will be listed as possible shopping sites for the winner(s). Although we have not worked out all the details, the goal is to get people inside the businesses to register for this shopping spree, also capturing mailing and emailing addresses for future promotions for the downtown area. Drawing from all registrations, the winner will be selected about noon on Monday, September 4. Volunteers will be around in the next week to get your commitment to the spree, along with all the details of how to participate.
Circus Chimera telemarketers will be calling Some time in the next couple of weeks you may be called by Circus Chimera asking if you would like to buy a block of tickets to distribute to your customers or the children of the community. A portion of all tickets sold will come directly back to Main Street Steamboat Springs to further the efforts of the organization to preserve, promote and enhance the downtown district. More than that, however, is the chance to share a circus with children of all ages. Everyone loves a circus! This circus is a small, traveling acrobatic circus with a small midway and a big tent. The circus will be here over the Labor Day weekend, in the Meadows Parking Lot next to the Tennis Bubble. Please strongly consider helping to sponsor the circus and benefit Main Street Steamboat Springs at the same time.

Sales Tax Numbers for June June was a very strong month for sales in the downtown area, with all categories of retail showing a marked increase. Increases were: Sporting Goods: + 33.40%; Lodging: + 12.1%; Restaurants: + 8.2% and Misc Retail: +4.6%, with an overall gain of 16.41% year over year.
Reminder on additional signs in the downtown district Recently there have been MANY illegal forms of signage popping up in downtown. Please be advised that you may be fined if you choose to ignore the sign code, part of which states: Sandwich boards, easels, dry-erase boards, etc are not allowed. All banners require a permit and may not be more than 30 square feet in size. The permit is valid for 14 consecutive days, two times per year, per business. For more information, contact Dave Gardner, Code Enforcement Technician for the City, 871-8222.
Help Wanted: Do you have a few hours each month you might like to contribute to Main Street? Each of the four committees and the board of directors could use a person committed to attending the meetings each month and taking minutes, writing them up and distributing them to the members of those committees. If you can spare a few hours and would like to help, call Tracy at 846-1800. Total time commitment might be about 5 hours per month per committee.
