Legendary Steamboat Springs’ Olympian To Help Promote High End Mountainside Ranch Community
(STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO) December 29, 2008 – Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club announces legendary Steamboat Springs’ Olympian Jim “Moose” Barrows as the newest addition to their Ranch Sales and Public Relations programs beginning immediately.
A Colorado Ski Hall of Fame Inductee and Steamboat native, Moose has been a long-time friend of co-developers of the Ranch, Andy Daly and Bill Butler, and the segue to Alpine Mountain Ranch’s on-site team was a natural from the developers’ perspective. “Moose stays active in the ski industry and has been a strong player in the real estate community as well. He brings a life-long perspective on the Steamboat lifestyle, plus an outgoing personality that will make potential buyers feel right at home,” said Bill Reid, new Chief Operating Officer at the Ranch.
Moose’s involvement in coaching and tireless support of numerous community non-profits has made him a well known figure in the Yampa Valley. “We are delighted to have Moose available to give property owners, their guests and prospective buyers an insider’s view of the community,” said Andy Daly, co-developer. Moose will assist in Public Relations, entertaining prospective buyers, and along with Carolyn Bird, Senior Sales Associate, will communicate Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club opportunities to the brokerage community in Steamboat.
According to Moose, long-time residents have always appreciated how special this property is. “I have had the opportunity to watch the property since I was a young boy, and I’m ready to help everyone understand what the combination of prime location and great views can mean to the high-end homesite buyer at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club.”
Some Highlights of Jim “Moose” Barrows skiing career:
Jim “Moose” Barrows, a Steamboat native, came up through the junior ranks starting with ski jumping at age 5 on Howelsen Hill. In the mid-1960s, he became the nation’s
premier four event skier, winning several NCAA skimeister titles, and was tagged “Moose” by his CU coach, Bob Beattie, who helped him perfect his Alpine skills. In 1965, he qualified for the US Ski Team, and in 1966, competed in the World Alpine Ski Championships in Portillo, Chile.
In 1967, he finished third in the First World Cup Downhill race ever held in the US in Franconia, NH, and finished the season seventh in FIS World Downhill ranking – the highest American, qualifying for the 1968 Olympic Team.
His 1968 season ended abruptly during his bid for an Olympic gold medal during the Downhill in Grenoble, France. His spectacular fall was well documented by ABC’s Wide World of Sports, never to be forgotten. He recovered to win the 1969 North American Downhill Championships. He joined the Pro Tour in 1971 and finished third overall in 1972.
He has since coached junior skiers and been head coach of the US Olympic Men’s Downhill Team. Since retiring from coaching, he has devoted much of his time to promoting skiing and ski racing.
