| Wine Fest holds first event downtown- The Steamboat Wine Festival is in its third year as an event. Held exclusively at the mountain before this year, Main Street is happy to host the Main Street Stroll of Steamboat downtown on Friday, August 4th from 4-7 PM. Starting at the courthouse where participants will pick up commemorative wine glasses and wrist bands (for $40), along with a map of tasting locations, tasters will have the opportunity to sample over 400 wines in seven locations throughout downtown. This is a wonderful opportunity to market to these wine enthusiasts, as they will be here August 3 through 6. The event is expected to draw over 500 people downtown for this Stroll.
Would you be interested in a SECRET SHOPPER SERVICE from Main Street? One of the ideas being tossed around in the Economic Restucturing committee is the possibility of offering businesses the opportunity to have a secret shopper evaluate your business for you. The ER committee is prepared to create an evaluation form and find the secret shoppers to give you an honest evaluation of customer service, displays, cleanliness, restrooms and/or any other thing you would like to have evaluated. Often it takes a fresh eye to see things that may not be apparent on a daily basis. Sometimes we are too close to a situation to see what is really going on within our businesses. All evaluations would be kept confidential. This would be a FREE service for any Main Street member. Although this program is not yet set up, if there is enough interest, ER will go ahead with the idea. Call 846-1800 if you might be interested in this service.

Circus Chimera coming to Steamboat Springs – Main Street will be hosting Circus Chimera when it returns to Steamboat Springs, September 1-4, over Labor Day weekend. Offering a total 7 performances on those days, the circus will be performing its acrobatic acts (much like Cirque d’Soleil) in a huge tent in the Meadows Parking Lot next to the Tennis Bubble. Tickets will be available at City Market, Safeway, the Chamber Information Center and All That Jazz as well as the Main Street office at 751 Yampa Street.. $3 discount coupons will be available all over town making the $10 general admission tickets available for $7. Upgrades are also available. The Circus will be contacting businesses to become ticket sponsors offering the opportunity for a business to purchase a small block of tickets to give away to the children in the community. Every child loves a circus! A portion of the proceeds of the circus ticket sales will go to Main Street to help sponsor more events and help improve the downtown experience for all of us. “Auntie Litter” hits the streets – Following the article in the Friday “Steamboat Today” titled “Clash about Trash”, Auntie Litter took to the streets (as she does about twice a week), with a trash bag in hand to pick up random pieces of trash in the downtown district. Auntie is pleased to report that downtown is looking really GOOD! Each week the amount of trash has been less and less. In the morning round of trash pick up from 7th Street to 13th and back to 7th, she was only able to collect _ of a plastic grocery sack of debris. In the afternoon round, a whole bag was collected, but _ of that was from the grassy areas next to the old Harbor Hotel parking lot. The other _ was from 7th down to 3rd Streets and back. Auntie was also reminded by several of the merchants that it has become part of the daily routine to sweep up or leaf-blow the debris in front of (and in back of, in some cases) their stores. Good job, everyone!!! Things are looking much better. The trash problem on 5th Street, much of which comes from the rodeo grounds on the weekends, is being addressed with better placement of trash cans along 5th Street.. Our thanks to our downtown businesses for bringing that problem to our attention. If there are other problem areas that need addressing, please don’t hesitate to call the Main Street office at 846-1800.
