Announcing The Rio Stampede 12 and 6 Hour Endurance Mountain Bike Race Changes Race Date Due To Record Breaking Snowpack.
Steamboat Springs, Colorado – May 22, 2008. Come out west and race with us in the Rio Stampede at the Steamboat Ski area. Legendary climbs and aspen-studded single track await you for this test of skill and endurance. Race either 12 or 6 hours with a team or solo. Not in the best of shape, get your work pals together and race in the corporate division.
Due to the record breaking snowpack of 2008, we are postponing the Rio Stampede until Saturday August 9, 2008. This date ensures the epic course and base area you have come to expect from all the Rio events.
Registration will remain open between now and August 8th. If you have already registered for the event, you will be contacted directly, or feel free to contact us.
Held for its 5th year, this new format replaces the established Rio 24 Hours of Steamboat. “We are looking for ways to get more people involved” says veteran event promoter Katie Lindquist. “We believe this format change will attract a great field of competitors creating an experience to be remembered” she adds.
Shaking up the endurance racing scene organizers say “you can ride it all in one day! “The only change from the 24 hour race is the clock” says co-director Brad Cusenbary, adding “we are the same organizers with the same great sponsors holding this race at the same spectacular venue”. “Festive, faster and local, you can’t go wrong”!
Classes include solo, duo and 3-person as well as a corporate division. After the race an awards party will be held at the Bear River Bar and Grill deck with the fresh Rio Grande Mexican food that we’ve all come to love. “We are hosting a huge prize drawing and category winner recognition ceremony as well as food and drink specials for everyone. With over $10,000 in cash and prizes we guarantee a great celebration after a full day of racing and fun” says Lindquist
