STEAMBOAT, CO (April 21, 2008) — Celebrate the senses this summer at the 5th Annual Wine Festival at Steamboat, July 31-Aug. 3. This premier destination event promises to be an epicurean extravaganza for aficionados and novices alike, bringing together master winemakers, culinary masterpieces and distinguished guests to play, wine and dine amid Steamboat's spectacular, relaxing, mountain-town setting.
Throughout the festival, guests can participate in a number of wine tastings and pairings, gourmet dinners, educational seminars and culinary competitions. The festival also provides a rare opportunity to meet with owners, winemakers and senior representatives from wineries around the globe. Last year’s festival saw more than 70,000 wine, spirit, beer and food samplings at Steamboat.
“The Wine Festival at Steamboat is designed to appeal to the devoted connoisseur and novice alike,” said Doug Larson, principal of TeamSage Productions, producer of the event. “And whether someone attends a handful of events or participates in everything the festival has to offer, they will walk away with a greater appreciation of fine food and wine.”
The festival kicks off Thursday with the Wine on the Mountain Kickoff Celebration, held at the top of the gondola and offering breathtaking views from the Thunderhead run. The Wine on the Mountain Celebration provides unique opportunities to spend one-on-one time with favorite winemakers and delve into a variety of wines, focusing on reserves but also showcasing some everyday selections. Heavy appetizers, music and entertainment will make this spectacular evening second to none. The event also features a high-end auction benefiting STARS (Steamboat Training Adaptive Recreational Sports), a local organization assisting handicapped skiers and visitors. To date, TeamSage Productions has generated more than $92,000 for local organizations from the wine festivals. From its entire line-up, the company has raised nearly $700,000 to date.
Friday's main attraction is the Stroll of Steamboat, when the town's charming downtown area comes to life with vintners offering samples of more than 250 different wine and spirit selections and delicious food to guests as they leisurely stroll the quaint town. The Stroll provides an unparalleled atmosphere for carefree wine tasting.
After the Stroll, guests are invited to get their "bubbles" on at the laid-back "Bubble Q," set on the banks of the beautiful Yampa River. The Bubble Q combines elegant champagnes, heavenly brews and delectable BBQ. The chic event is accompanied with hip, live music and plenty of fun, soapy bubbles for guests to fill the air.
The festival culminates with its signature event – the Toast of Steamboat Grand Tasting. Set at the foot of gorgeous Mt. Werner, the Grand Tasting will showcase over 500 wines, food from Steamboat's finest chefs, live entertainment and an array of luxury-related vendors. Attendees also will enjoy the Viking Outdoor Kitchen, featuring cooking demonstrations and celebrity chef contests.
Throughout the weekend, festival patrons have the opportunity to attend several winemakers dinners at area restaurants. Wine industry experts, mixologists, sommeliers and renowned chefs also host a number of wine and food seminars. Seminar topics range from the proper way to swirl and swish to comparing and contrasting wines from regions around the world. Others review food and wine pairings to supply attendees with recipes and knowledge for home entertaining.
“The festival promises to be a truly memorable celebration and a great opportunity to sample hundreds of the finest wines from around the globe as well as sumptuous cuisine from acclaimed chefs,” said Larson. “I honestly can’t think of a more appealing event to attend. It promises to be an amazing, unique experience set in a stunning, world-class mountain destination.”
