3/20/08 - Images of Nature® announces an evening with Thomas D. Mangelsen
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado – February 29, 2008 – The Images of Nature® gallery at 730 Lincoln Avenue, announces an evening with Thomas D. Mangelsen, Saturday March 29th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Tom Mangelsen will be making a personal appearance and is looking forward signing copies of his latest book The Natural World and sharing some stories from his recent travels.

The Artist Reception will feature collections from Tom Mangelsen’s expeditions to Antarctica and Alaska, Mexico and Tanzania as well as collections featuring the Rocky Mountains, the Tetons and Canada. Images of Nature offers Mangelsen’s work in a variety of formats including limited edition photographic prints, fine art posters, art cards, and books.

Thomas D. Mangelsen's The Natural World is his latest and most lavish of photographic books. Tom selected 115 of his most important panoramic images out of a library of more than 20,000. This new collection represents over twenty years making photographs with this medium. Spanning six continents and crossing the northern- to the southern-most extremes of the Earth, these spectacular images take both an intimate and far-reaching look into the natural world that has inspired artists, conservationists and adventurers for centuries. Thomas D. Mangelsen’s The Natural World stands as a record of the Earth’s last great places.

Thomas D. Mangelsen is no stranger to photographic accolades; he now has the honor of adding American Photo Magazine’s Image of the Year Award for their nature category to his list. The award-winning photo captures images of King Penguins in the bright morning sunshine, shaking off after a cold dip in the sea on South Georgia Island in the southern Atlantic Ocean.

In its second year, The Images of the Year Competition is unique in the breadth of photography it showcases: photojournalism and fine art; advertising and student work; and nature and wedding photography. The competition represents American Photo Magazine’s commitment to finding and publishing the best photography in the world, from professional photographers and amateurs alike.

“As this image shows, Mangelsen relies on a schedule of heavy travel, a habit of hard work, and an eye that is always searching for memorable composition and color,” Russell Hart, Executive Editor for American Photo, said.

Thomas D. Mangelsen has long been recognized as one of the world’s premier nature photographers. His images have been seen and admired by millions. Mangelsen’s photographs have appeared in National Geographic, Audubon, National Wildlife, Smithsonian, Natural History, Newsweek, American Photo, Wildlife Art, and other publications. Recognized as one of the 100 most important people in photography by American Photo magazine, Mangelsen has also been honored with an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society, awarded the North American Nature Photographer Association’s (NANPA) Outstanding Nature Photographer of the Year, and was named the 1994 Wildlife Photographer of the Year by the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC) as well as British Gas. His work has been displayed in natural history museums across the United States, Canada and Europe.
