Meet the Artist event for “Chamber Legacy” statue and artist
When you combine clay, two extremely talented hands and the motivation to give back to a small
mountain community, you’ve got a masterpiece in the making. In October 2006, local artist Sandra
Graves began work on what is now know as “Chamber Legacy,” a full size, life-like statue of three
young children playing on a see-saw, each representing a piece of Steamboat Springs’s traditional
heritage – our community legacies of mining, ranching and skiing.
The statue commemorates the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s 100 years of service
to the community, celebrated in 2007; which was a significant milestone for local businesses.
“Chamber Legacy” will serve as a symbol of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s
efforts to educate, promote and advocate for this strong and vital business community.
The process, detail, time and energy needed to create “Chamber Legacy” is unparallel. Demonstrating
her refined skills and unique talents, this bronze statue will show Graves’ true craftsmanship. On
February 20th, we invite the public to be a part of the legacy and see this community gift being
created. As the first of three Meet the Artists events, participants will be able to see Graves’ progress
on “Chamber Legacy” up close and personal.
The event will feature a question and answer period with Sandra Graves including information about
the process of making a bronze statue. The public will also have the opportunity to make donations to
this captivating project.
“This project is something the entire city of Steamboat Springs can be proud of,” says Sandy Evans-
Hall, Executive Vice President of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. “We see this as
a gift from the businesses to the community and we look forward to donations to help make this a true
community effort.”
Contribution forms for the “Chamber Legacy” statue can be submitted at the February Meet the Artist
event and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s Visitors Center. Interested donors
may also call Sandy Evans-Hall directly at 970.875.7007.
The Meet the Artist event for Sandra Graves and the “Chamber Legacy” statue will be on February
20th from 5 -7 pm at the Artists’ Gallery of Steamboat located at 1009 Lincoln Avenue in downtown
Steamboat Springs.
Celebrating over 100 years of service in Steamboat Springs, Colorado the Steamboat Springs
Chamber Resort Association works to promote summertime activities and programs.
