Old Town Hot Springs Announces Grand Opening with $5 Million Invested in New Amenities
Popular hot springs destination to inaugurate new slides and pools with a splash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – After several months and $5 million in capital improvements, Old Town Hot Springs will open its new waterslides and hot pools Monday, January 14. The two 230-foot waterslides, plunge pool and two new hot pools will open Monday in a special Grand Opening ceremony free and open to the public from 4-8 p.m.

“For over a century Old Town Hot Springs has been a destination for locals and visitors to gather to relax and revive and through the years it has grown to meet the needs of the community,” said Pat Carney, director of the Old Town Hot Springs. “We are thrilled to offer our members and guests the most significant upgrades to date.”

The Grand Opening begins Monday, January 14 at 4:00 p.m. when Steamboat Springs’ “Jamaican Waterslide Team” will inaugurate the two new 230-foot waterslides.

“In the spirit of our Olympic Heritage here in Ski Town, USA® we’ve invited eight seasonal workers from Jamaica to do the honor of the first official runs down the new slides,” said Carney. “Although the slides are more like a luge than a bobsled, we thought it would be fun to tribute the famous Jamaican Bobsled Team while hosting a festive celebration for this new amenity.”

The two new “body slides” were custom-designed and built specifically for the Old Town Hot Springs by Aqua Recreation, a leading designer in waterslides based in Huntersville, North Carolina. Sliders lie down feet-first to descend through 360º, 180º or 540º loops and curves down the 230-foot slides before plunging into the spring-fed pool.

Following the opening ceremony, Old Town Hot Springs invites those eager to ride the slides to join in the fun immediately following the “Hot Runnings” until 8:00 p.m.

Old Town Hot Springs also opens its new 3,000 square foot hot pool. The new “big hot pool” features a climbing wall, waterfall, two fountains and plenty of room to enjoy the natural hot mineral water. Additionally, a new 240-foot spa pool will open with jets and a waterfall feature. The historic Heart Spring will re-open with new tile rockwork and plaster.

All of Old Town Hot Springs’ eight pools are fed by the Heart Spring, a spring once used by the Utes who spent summers in the area and later discovered by town founder James Crawford in 1875. Formerly named Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Association, Old Town Hot Springs has operated as a non-profit organization since 1935. Old Town Hot Springs is located at 136 Lincoln Avenue, downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado. For more information visit their website at www.steamboathotsprings.org.
