12/12/07 - Open Mic Night To Benefit of Russ Blackhurst
As many of you may have heard or read, the Monday after Thanksgiving, Steamboat Springs local Russ Blackhurst was seriously injured in a car accident just west of Milner. He had two intense surgeries but thankfully, will make a full recovery.

Help Blackhurst's family raise money to pay for his mounting medical bills Thursday, Dec. 20 at Olympian Hall starting at 7 p.m. Steamboat's best musicians and artists will take their turn on the microphone while you socialize and enjoy spirits (of the Holiday and liquid variety). A raffle is included. Ten dollar-donation recommended.

Musicians Welcome: This isn’t just for Russ. Open Mic Night at the Olympian is a celebration of musical artistry in all its forms. Please come out and take a turn on the mic solo, or with a friend or two. We’ll provide speakers, a drum set and microphone. All you have to do is plug in. Don’t have a guitar or base that plugs into an amp? We’ll help you out. Please keep it to two songs. If the crowd is wild for you, we may be able to fit in three.

Rap, rock, reggae, funk, bluegrass and country are all welcome. Did we forget your genre? Come open our eyes.

Improvisational lyrics welcome, even encouraged.

Please send an email to joe@steamboatmagazine.com if you’d like to donate to the raffle.
