Steamboat Springs, CO -- Where do members of the New York Philharmonic go to relax, play music together and have a simply fantastic time? Strings in the Mountains of course! On Wednesday, August 1 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 4 at 8:00 p.m., you can join in the gathering and experience metropolitan flare, western style!
On Wednesday August 1, New York Philharmonic’s Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim, Principal Associate Concertmaster Sheryl Staples, and Associate Principal Clarinetist Mark Nuccio are joined by National Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Cellist David Hardy for an extraordinary evening of music entitled “Among Friends.”
Nuccio and Hardy welcome Andrew Le, a brilliant pianist and Juilliard doctoral candidate in Ka Nin Chan’s Among Friends for Clarinet, Cello and Piano. Michelle Kim, Sheryl Staples and the festival’s Yizhak Schotten then perform Kodaly’s Serenade for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 12. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Piano Trio in B Flat, Op. 97 "Archduke" performed by the Carnegie Mellon Trio. Tickets are: $23.00.
Then on Saturday, August 4 the musicians reunite for “Music from the Heart.” Schumann’s Fantasiestücke for Clarinet and Piano, Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie in A Flat, and Schubert’s Quintet in C for Two Violins, Viola, and Two Cellos are all showcased. Tickets are $25.00.
