STEAMBOAT SPRINGS-UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center (YVMC) and Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (SOSI) today announce a new partnership to operate an orthopedic ambulatory surgery center (ASC).

“Partnering with local orthopedic and spine physicians will greatly benefit our patients and the entire Steamboat Springs community,” said Dr. Tom Downes, interim CEO of YVMC. “Conversations and work over the past several months have helped us develop an excellent partnership. Both YVMC and the physicians are proud of our collaboration.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce our new partnership with YVMC and UCHealth,” said Dr. Alexander Meininger, surgeon and partner with SOSI. “This is the opportunity for efficient, cost-effective outpatient surgery that our community has been awaiting. SOSI and UCHealth will continue to develop advanced subspecialty orthopedic services.”

The new surgery center, which will be located on the first floor of the former Sports Authority building in Wildhorse Marketplace, will occupy approximately 8,000 square feet and will consist of operating rooms, pre- and post-surgical care space, and sterile processing. SOSI has leased the entire building and is working to renovate the second floor to house its clinic.

“SOSI represents years of determination to provide patients with a unified orthopedic group,” said Dr. Andreas Sauerbrey, surgeon and partner with SOSI. “Now, along with UCHealth, we’re looking forward to a new surgical experience for patients. Our new location in the Sports Authority building combines clinical care and a surgical center. We are proud of what our collaboration with our colleagues has been able to accomplish thus far.”

“We’re working together to deliver an excellent patient experience,” said Soniya Fidler, interim president of YVMC. “By combining this specialized team of providers, as well as YVMC’s skilled operating room staff, patients can continue to receive the very best orthopedic care, close to home.”

Decision making and management of the surgery center will be shared equally through the new partnership. Construction on the ASC is anticipated to begin in late spring 2019, with opening slated for the end of the year. SOSI anticipates opening its clinic space this fall.

The surgery center will be an option for patients who need orthopedic operations without an overnight stay in a hospital. YVMC will continue to provide advanced orthopedic care for patients, including hospital admissions for any complex cases as needed. Patients and their physicians will determine the appropriate location for procedures.
