STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – For over two decades, The New Mastersounds have inspired soulful dance parties around the world. “We are influenced by the old funk and soul scene in the U.K. There were DJs playing funk and soul 45’s and the club vibe inspired the band,” says Eddie Roberts, the group’s lead singer and guitarist.

“We started playing in clubs, and even 20 years later it’s still an important part of our history. It’s all about keeping the dance floor going. It’s kind of like being the DJ of the night, but with a band,” Roberts says.

Roberts performs with Simon Allen on drums, bass guitarist Pete Shand and Joe Tatton on keys, all of them sharing in creative freedom. Their innovative melodies and energetic stage presence dare you not to dance.

The band brought their funky jazz sounds to Steamboat Springs in 2009, and have returned to play at least once a year since. The New Mastersounds hold the Yampa Valley close to their hearts. “I had my first ski lesson in Steamboat about 12 years ago,”Roberts says. “Now I am a maniac skier.”

The music scene has kept them coming back. “The Steamboat audience is pretty crazy,” Roberts says. “They definitely like to have a good time and dance a lot. I’ve always loved the Old Town Pub and the vibe that we get there– people really get down. It kind of reminds me of the old throw downs back in the U.K. when we were just getting going. If you’re not dancing, you’re going to get carried away with the crowd and find yourself dancing before you know it.”

You can hear The New Mastersounds, Friday, June 1 at the Old Town Pub. For more information visit http://newmastersounds.com
