Steamboat Springs native Janie Townes returned to town in 2014 after graduating from Colorado Mesa University. An employee of Wyndham Vacation Resorts, she’s living the Steamboat dream.

What do you like to do in town?

Music is really prevalent, whether at Sunset Happy Hour or downtown at Schmiggity’s. And night skiing on top of that. I would say the best things in town are the music and skiing. Steamboat has night-skiing at two different mountains– Steamboat Ski Area and Howelsen Hill.

What are your favorite happy hours?

My friends and I go to Mahogany Ridge from 4-5:30 p.m. They brew their own beer in house– Alpenglow is my favorite. I like E3 happy hour as well. Really good drinks, and their truffle fries are amazing. They have a really good elk burger on the happy hour menu, too. They also have a really good dirty martini there.

Did you attend WinterWonderGrass?

I did! Oh my god, it was the best, chillest experience. It brought so many people to Steamboat. They were all here to hear music and dance and hang out in the snow. We froze our asses off, but we had a good time. F.M. Light has a really good winter sale, so I bought winter boots, and I wore snowpants and a hat that I also got at F.M. Light. Then I just layered up. You could warm up inside the tents at the festival. We made a lot of friends.

What music venues do you enjoy the most in the winter?

I like Schmiggity’s and the Old Town Pub because they have different types of music. Schmiggity’s has had everything from a Sublime cover band to a Pink Floyd cover band to a DJ to a rock and bluegrass band. The Old Town Pub plays music like Umphrey’s McGee and Phish, which are really big in this town as well– all different realms of music, which is awesome.
