Routt County Riders Sponsorship Day Kicks Off Summer on the Mountain

06/08/2016 04:51PM ● By Dan Greeson

Summer at Steamboat Ski Resort begins Thursday, June 9, with Routt County Riders Sponsorship Day, during which all proceeds from specially priced twilight tickets and a portion of bike rentals will benefit the local trail group. Since the Steamboat Bike Park opened in 2012, Sponsorship Day has collected nearly $20,000 for Routt County Riders. The June 9 benefit represents the start to the summer season, which will run daily through August 28 in addition to Labor Day Weekend and Fridays through Sundays from September 2 to 25.

“We couldn’t imagine a better way to start summer than by donating funds to maintain, expand and improve local trails that we all enjoy,” said Jim Schneider, vice president of skier services for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. “Sponsorship Day demonstrates the true spirit of Bike Town, U.S.A., and we are proud to support the efforts of Routt County Riders.”

Sponsorship Day will feature specially priced $15 tickets to access the Steamboat Bike Park and gondola rides from 3 to 7 pm on Thursday, June 9. The resort will also offer a 50% discount on rentals, including the latest full-suspension downhill mountain bikes from Specialized, Scott, Norco and Intense eCycles as well as full body armor, helmets, gloves and pads. Routt County Riders will also receive $15 of every bike rental on June 9. In addition to biking, the Coca-Cola Adventure Zone will offer 50% off single activities and a special $19 unlimited Activity Pass for Sponsorship Day.

After a particularly wet spring, crews are working on trail maintenance and will announce Sponsorship Day openings later this week. Throughout the season, guests should check Steamboat.com/weather for up-to-date trail conditions and accessibility. Season passes will not be valid on Sponsorship Day but will provide access to the mountain starting Friday, June 10, when the resort begins daily operations. Steamboat Ski Resort will be open for summer— including gondola rides, hiking, biking, Coca-Cola Adventure Zone and more — from 10 am to 4 pm Mondays through Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10 am to 7 pm Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm on Sundays through August 28. The resort switches to fall hours in September, when the mountain will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on Fridays, 10 am to 4 pm Saturdays and Labor Day, and from 9:30 am to 4 pm on Sundays through September 25.

New this summer, downhill and cross-country mountain bikers will enjoy the completion of the new 3.4-mile long Pioneer multi-use bike trail, including more than 600 feet of bridges and elevated pathways; Lasso, a new beginner trail on the lower mountain; a redesigned pump track in Ski Time Square; and the newest technology in downhill and mountain biking equipment with an upgraded rental and demo fleet. The popular Captain of the Boat downhill race series continues this summer with competitions held every other Friday evening in July and August, and various Town Challenge races, Enduro X races and more will once again hit the trails on Mount Werner.

Formed in the early 1990s, Routt County Riders is dedicated to all things cycling in and around Steamboat Springs, Colorado. RCR is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Chapter club that continues to grow and represent more variations of biking, including downhill/freeride, year-round commuting and adaptive cycling across the Yampa Valley.
