Steamboat Springs 2013 Summer Bike Events

Steamboat Bike Week 

Presented by Bike Town USA® 

A festive week of family fun, live music, racing and  excitement build to the moment when USA Pro Challenge  racers enter town on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 21,  and the celebration continues even as the tour moves on. 


Steamboat Stinger 

Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 17-18 

The Steamboat Stinger is a challenging backcountry race  showcasing Steamboat Springs’ single track. The Stinger  comprises a full- and half-trail marathon in addition to a  mountain bike race. Those who wish to take the ultimate  challenge may participate in both events - the 50-mile solo  mountain bike race, and the 26.2 trail marathon the next day  - to be crowned King Sting or Queen Bee.  www.honeystinger.com/steamboatstinger.html  


Sunshine Enduro

Saturday, Aug. 17, 3:30 p.m. 

Racers begin at Rendezvous Saddle at the Steamboat  Ski Area and go up Sunshine Trail in a time-neutral climb.  Timed racing begins at the intersection of Cathy’s Cutoff and  Sunshine, with riders losing 3,000 feet in elevation along the  way down mountain bike trails, through the Steamboat Bike  Park, to the ski area base. www.enduro-xrace.com


Thunderhead Challenge

Sunday, Aug. 18, 9 a.m. 

Stage 1: Rawhide Enduro — From top of the gondola,  racers descend 2,000 feet down Upper & Lower Rawhide  (scheduled to be completed in August), to Wrangler’s Gulch,  Buckin’ Bronc and EZ Rider to finish at the  base area.  Stage 2: Rustler’s Ridge  Enduro — Individual start  at Rustler’s Ridge Trailhead;  finish at the base area. www.enduro-xrace.com 


USA Pro Challenge 

Stage 3 Finish, Aug. 21 

1 p.m. Activity will center around the stage at Eighth  Street and Lincoln Avenue. Dancers, entertainment and kids’  activities are planned.  3:30- 4 p.m. Estimated time racers enter finish area; finish  line is at Sixth Street and Lincoln Avenue.  4-6 p.m. Bike Town USA® stage awards are presented,  followed by the Loose Change Band, playing classic rock and  country music on the Eighth Street stage. 


USA Pro Challenge 

Stage 4 Start , Aug. 22 

Mid-morning Racers gather at the Gondola Square stage  for the start of Stage 4, which begins at the Promenade. After  the racers head out, enjoy the family-oriented activities, from  bungee jumping to the climbing wall, in Gondola Square.  Parents, watch for a Bloody Mary bar. Test your skills on  the extensive mountain-bike and gravity trail system at the  Steamboat Ski Area. Rentals are available at the base. www.steamboat.com
