Originally built in the late 1990s, this mountain Gothic home has undergone a dramatic transformation during a series of remodels. A home that could be characterized as “bare bones” at the start has been personalized with a spa, outdoor swimming pool and home theater to match the grandeur of its views into Strawberry Park.

The process started with building a well-appointed indoor spa in the home’s unfinished basement. Additional recreational spaces soon followed. The outdoor pool at 8,000 feet was built in 2010, during the winter of Steamboat Springs’ record snowfall. Because the existing structure already incorporated a lot of heated stamped-concrete patios, the design continued with that effect. The builder created a graceful bridge between the old and new, while adding significant square footage to the home’s exterior living spaces. The freshwater pool is plaster with limestone at the top.

Up next was the transformation of an unfinished room above the garage. Out of the raw space emerged interior finish work incorporating beetle-kill beams and rustic walnut flooring. This so-called “bonus room” became a high-tech theater with an 84-inch flat screen TV, a billiards table and a wet bar. Comfortable seating is a focal point in the décor, and a full bathroom was added as well. Rumor Design coordinated all the finishes, including plaster walls, while Paragon Technologies designed and installed the state-of-the-art entertainment system.

Recently featured on Colorado Group Realty’s Parade of Homes tour, the home won kudos for its craftsmanship and refreshing design.
